Abstract
Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) is widely recognized as a cornerstone of modern education; however, the realization of its full pedagogical potential is heavily contingent upon the quality and methodology of learner grouping. This study presents an innovative mathematical model based on Binary Integer Programming (BIP) aimed at achieving optimal and equitable grouping. The primary innovation of this model lies in the simultaneous integration of three critical dimensions—Felder-Soloman learning styles, diversity in prior knowledge, and teammate preferences—while incorporating a “fairness constraint” to ensure an equitable distribution of grouping quality across all participants. For empirical validation, eighteen students were organized into three grouping configurations: fairness-oriented, preference-oriented, and random. The mathematical model was executed using the CPLEX solver in the GAMS environment, achieving the global optimum with a zero-percent optimality gap. Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) results demonstrated a statistically significant effect of grouping type on academic achievement (p
